A Community Conversation: The REAL History of Enslavement in Our Local Area In-Person
Were you taught that slavery existed primarily in the South and that New England was “above” such behavior? When and how was slavery outlawed in Connecticut? Were enslaved people mainly of African descent or were Indigenous people enslaved here too? Did Waterford landowners have enslaved people? Hear the truth about our past, share your own insights, and ask questions of a panel of historians and experts:
- Paul Helvig, Waterford RISE member
- Lonnie Braxton, historian
- Michael Thomas, Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center Board of Directors Member
